The Myth of Balance: Why It’s Okay If Your Life Isn’t Even

Balance. It’s the buzzword every Christian mompreneur hears. The dream goal. The far-off promise that if you just work harder, plan smarter, or hire better, you’ll finally have it all together.

But what if chasing perfect balance is exactly what’s making you feel more defeated?

A Rhythm, Not a Scale

When I left the classroom to build Crown of Glory Solutions, I didn’t promise myself a life of equal hours, neat schedules, and tidy boxes checked at equal intervals.

Instead, I promised to honor the season I was in: messy mornings, snack-time emails, bedtime project reviews, and Sunday reset.

Because here’s what truth looks like in real time:

  • Some days feel heavily weighted toward business—when a deadline is looming or a launch is live.

  • Other days are all about family—doctor appointments, field trips, or extra cuddles when someone’s under the weather.

  • Some weeks are a blend: early work windows before the kids wake up, shortened client calls, nap-time tasks, and spontaneous afternoon walks.

This isn’t chaos. It’s rhythm.

Why Balance Isn’t the Goal—Grace Is

Balance tells us everything must be even. That’s a lie.

Grace tells us to lean in when needed—and step back when necessary. Grace reminds us that seasons change:

  • Seasons of work intensify—like in July when I onboarded new clients and coached students.

  • Seasons of home-centered work take precedence—like when the kids were young, or during milestones and moves.

  • Seasons of rest and reflection come—and they will arrive if you give space for them.

We’re not designed for symmetry. We’re designed for obedience. Harmony, not equations.

How the Myth of Balance Sets You Up for Guilt

Have you ever felt guilt because:

  • You worked late on a Tuesday?

  • You skipped your quiet first work window for a late-night family moment?

  • You missed a nap to finish a proposal?

That guilt? It comes from believing that if we’re not evenly distributed across roles, we’re somehow failing. But Scripture says something different:

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you.” — Matthew 6:33

God doesn’t require perfection from our schedules—only surrender from our hearts.

Practical Rhythms That Have Changed Everything

Here are three shifts that have helped me embrace the sum of my life, not the balance of it:

  1. Work Windows – Early mornings, nap-time stretches, and intentional evening sessions give me flexibility without missing the moments that matter most.

  2. Margin Built In – Not every hour is optimized. I allow leniency for messy lunches, delayed emails, and yes—sometimes toddler interruptions.

  3. Reflection Rhythms – A weekly planning session with God. Not to craft a perfect schedule, but to ask: Where are You calling me this week, and how do You want me to steward my time?

These aren’t quick fixes. They’re Kingdom frameworks that honor both your calling and your children.

A Message for the Mama Who Feels Uneven

If you’re juggling appointment books, Aunt Flo, client calls, unresolved laundry, homeschooling expectations—and wondering where balance disappeared—this is for you:

You’re not failing.
You’re in right now.

God didn’t equip you to live life on a scale. He equipped you to live by rhythm and relationship.

So breathe. Your life is not unbalanced—it’s divinely distributed.
