When God Changes the Plan: Learning to Pivot with Purpose

By Rachel Roach | Rooted and Ready

Running a business rooted in faith shouldn’t feel like a constant hustle.
Here, you’ll find encouragement, practical tips, and systems to help you run your business with peace, purpose, and clarity.

A New Season, A New Shift

If you’ve been following my journey for any amount of time, you know that my life as a wife, homeschool mom, worship leader, and faith-driven virtual assistant has never been a straight line. I’m convinced that God writes stories with curves on purpose, not because He wants to confuse us, but because He wants us close enough to hear Him whisper the next step.

And right now, the whispers sound a lot like change.

The shift from summer to fall is always a reminder to me that transformation is necessary. The leaves don’t ask permission to change their colors. The air doesn’t check in with us before it cools. Seasons shift because they were designed to, and in this season of motherhood and business, God has been gently nudging me to shift too.

The Plan I Thought I Had

I entered this year with color-coded calendars, neatly planned timelines, and a full business strategy. I knew exactly what I wanted to build in Crown of Glory Solutions and how it was supposed to look.

But then homeschooling started.

My daughter needed more of me during the day.
My son entered a new stage that required more patient parenting.
My clients shifted into new seasons of their own.
And I suddenly found myself in the tension of balancing motherhood with being a Christian business owner.

It wasn’t burnout.
It wasn’t failure.
It wasn’t even frustration.

It was God saying, “I’m changing the plan. Stay close.”

The Scripture That Carried Me

Proverbs 16:9 has been the verse I keep coming back to:

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

As a mom entrepreneur and Christian virtual assistant, that truth anchors me. I can make all the plans in the world, but the peace comes from knowing that God is the One who orders my steps, my seasons, and even my work windows.

When God Slows You Down

One of the biggest shifts this year has been learning to slow down intentionally.

Not because I’m overwhelmed.
Not because I can’t keep up.
But because my children deserve a mom who is present, not preoccupied.

Homeschooling my daughter has changed everything about the way I approach business. I now build my work around her learning rhythms, her growth, her heart. And yet, my business continues to thrive.

Here’s what I’m learning:
Slowing down for your family doesn’t sabotage your calling. It strengthens it.

When God shifts the plan, He also shifts the capacity, the vision, and the provision.

A Word for the Woman Feeling the Pull to Change

Maybe you’re listening to this and feeling that nudge too.

Maybe your 9–5 is wearing you thin.
Maybe you long to be home with your kids more.
Maybe you’re craving a new chapter but fear stepping into the unknown.
Maybe you feel torn between motherhood and business and wonder if you’re doing either one well.

Let me gently say this:

God is not asking you to have the whole plan.
He’s asking you to trust Him with the next step.

If He is stirring your heart toward a life that gives you more peace, more presence, and more alignment with the season you’re in, then it’s okay to pivot. It’s okay to change course. It’s okay to evolve.

I did.
And it led to the most fulfilling season of my life.
